EVENTS 2007

PRIZE DAY


On 12th June 2007, the Annual Prize day was held at the open-air auditorium. The chief guest was Maj.Gen.R.K.Swamy (AVSM, VSM Commandant – Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai).

Maj.Gen.R.K.Swamy gave away the prizes for the class XII students and Mrs. Swamy gave away the prizes for class X and other classes. In his speech, Maj.Gen R.K.Swamy, emphazised the importance of hard work in achieving academic excellence.

ALUMNI INDUCTION

The Alumni induction ceremony was held on Saturday, 16th June 2007. The students of 2006-2007 batch were inducted as Alumni. Many alumni from past batches participated in the get-together.


REFLECTIONS

Our annual inter school culturals, Reflections, was held on the 6th and 7th of July. Dr.Sirkali Sivachidambaram inaugurated the culturals. Students from 22 schools participated enthusiastically in the 14 events that were conducted. This included two new events that were introduced this year - 'On The Lot' and 'The VM Code'. P.S Senior Secondary School walked away with the shield. The popular playback singer Naveen Madhav was the guest of honour at the valedictory function.


ENTRENOUS


On 14 th July, the Entrenous 2007 was formally inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by our principal. The participants included students from all sections of classes X, XI, XII who took part in the various events with a great deal of enthusiasm. In all, there were 10 events- Anthakshari, q uiz, Dumb charades, Short story writing, Painting, Junk art, Shipwreck, Adzap, Group Discussion and the most popular Variety show. XII D was declared the overall winner.

SCHOOL DAY

The 52 nd school day program was celebrated on 10 th August 2007 at 4.30 pm in Mylapore Fine Arts Hall. The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Mitran Devanesan, a well known theatre personality of the city. The events included were Orchestra, Middle School English Play, Dance Drama, High School English Play, Tamil Play, Sanskrit Play and Hindi Dance Drama. Children took part enthusiastically and the audience was very appreciative too. Teaching and Non-teaching staff, who had served 20 and 30 years in the school were honored during the official function.

SPORTS DAY

The Sports Day, conducted on 20 th August 2007, was declared open by R.Ramkumar, our alumnus and an excellent sportsperson. The Chief Guest for the day was Mrs. Sumathi Iyar, Indian Cricketer and the first National and International Woman Umpire. The KanchenJunga House emerged the overall winner.

MOLE DAY

Mole day is celebrated around the world on October 23 rd (10/23). It starts at 6:02 AM and goes on till 6:02 PM to signify Avagadro's number 6.022 * 10 23 .

The theme for this year's mole day was “Appreciating Chemists” which was the same world over.

Class IX chose their own scientists to appreciate, while classes X and XI made charts on all Nobel laureates in chemistry from 1901 to 2007 which contained information on all their achievements. Class VI through XII visited the exhibits.

BONDS

Bonds is an interschool chemistry based culturals conducted by the Chemistry Club every alternate year. This year it was held on November 3 rd .

Around 14 schools were invited to participate in a host of events which included Dumb Charades, Su-Do-Ku, Shipwreck, Model making, Treasure hunt and the Quiz which was conducted by our chief guest Dr Mangala Sundar Krishna from IIT Madras.

P.S Senior Secondary school was the overall winner of the event.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT


The PTA sponsored inter-school basketball tournament was held from 6 th to 14 th November with seventeen teams taking part in the boys' group and fifteen schools in the girls' category. The winners were

VOLLEYBALL

The Alumni sponsored inter-school volleyball tournament was also held from 6 th to 14 th November. Sixteen schools participated in the boys' category and fifteen in the girls' category. The winners were

INFOHIGH

InfoHigh 2007, the Computer Science culturals, was held on Friday, the 16 th November. Forty-one teams from 15 schools participated. Events like Ad zap, Collage, Web-designing, Power Point Presentations and Programming were held. The overall winner was P.S.B.B Nungambakkam. It was a wonderful experience for the students of VM to meet new students from other schools and interact with them.

PROJECT DAY

The Annual Project Day was held on the 17 th of November . The Chief Guest, Mrs.Prem Dulari (Principal, Hindu Senior Sec. School, Triplicane) inaugurated the ceremony. The Topics for the various classes were

The students also put up colorful shows such as Villupattu, Hindi skit, English skit, and Power point presentations based on the project topics.


COMMERCIUM


Commercum 2007, the commerce culturals organized by the commerce club was held on the 17 th of November. The chief guest for the day was Mrs. Hema Raman, Director, Sriram Law Academy. Nine schools participated in events such as Shipwreck, Legal Battle, Adzap, Quiz, Business Packaging, Logo Designing etc. Abhinaya of P.S Senior Sec School was adjudged “STAR OF THE SHOW” in the event “Belling the CAT”.
